Barrenwort 'Rose Queen'

Epimedium grandiflorum 'Rose Queen' is a superb Barrenwort cultivar, perfect for adding refined elegance to UK woodland gardens. This semi-evergreen perennial grows to 30cm, unfurling delicate, spurred, rosy-red flowers with distinctive long white spurs in April and May. Its attractive, heart-shaped foliage often emerges with bronzed tints in spring, maturing to green before sometimes taking on autumnal hues. 'Rose Queen' thrives in partial to full shade and moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. It is fully hardy (RHS H6) and forms a slowly spreading clump, creating excellent groundcover that suppresses weeds. A tough yet beautiful plant for challenging shaded spots.
