Oleaster 'Compacta'

Elaeagnus x ebbingei 'Compacta' is a versatile evergreen shrub much valued for hedging in the UK, especially in challenging conditions. This particular cultivar offers a denser, more compact habit than the species, making it easier to maintain as a neat hedge. It features attractive, leathery, dark green leaves with silvery undersides, providing year-round texture. In autumn, it produces small, fragrant, silvery-white flowers, followed by small orange berries in spring. 'Compacta' is exceptionally tough and hardy (H5), tolerating coastal exposure, strong winds, pollution, and dry shade. It thrives in almost any well-drained soil. An excellent choice for robust, low-maintenance hedging.
