Peanut Cactus

The Peanut Cactus is a charming, clumping cactus known for its multitude of finger-like, bright green stems that resemble peanuts, often covered in soft spines. It readily offsets, forming attractive mounds. In late spring to early summer, it produces an abundance of glorious, funnel-shaped, vibrant orange to red flowers that are disproportionately large for the stems, creating a spectacular display. This relatively cold-tolerant cactus is suitable for a very bright, sheltered spot in milder UK gardens, particularly in alpine troughs, or as an extremely rewarding conservatory or windowsill plant. It needs gritty, well-drained compost and a cool, dry winter rest to encourage flowering.
