Wallich's Wood Fern 'Jurassic Gold'
A relatively new and exciting addition to the fern world, 'Jurassic Gold' is a striking cultivar of the already impressive Wallich's Wood Fern. The "wow factor" of this plant is its spectacular spring emergence; the new fronds arise in a brilliant shade of golden-orange, looking almost like glowing embers in a shady corner. As the season progresses, the foliage gradually transitions to a bright golden-green and finally a deep, rich green in late summer. It forms a tidy, upright crown of stiff, leathery fronds and can reach around 60-70cm in height. In the UK, it is deciduous to semi-evergreen depending on the severity of the winter. Like its parent species, it features dark, almost black scales on the stems which contrast beautifully with the golden new growth. It is very hardy and easy to grow in any moist, well-drained soil. It makes a superb focal point in a spring woodland garden.
Sun: Partial shade.
Soil: Humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.
