Golden-scaled Male Fern 'Cristata Angustata'
An extraordinary and highly ornamental evergreen or semi-evergreen fern, 'Cristata Angustata' is a refined selection of our native Golden-scaled Male Fern. This variety is celebrated for its incredibly narrow, upright fronds that feature intricate cresting at the tips of every pinna and at the apex of the frond itself. The young fronds emerge in spring covered in attractive golden-brown scales, providing vertical interest in a shady border. Growing to a height of approximately 60-90cm, it maintains a tidy, vase-shaped habit. It is exceptionally tough and reliable in the UK climate, tolerating drier conditions than many other ferns once established. It is an ideal specimen for a stumpery, a traditional fernery, or as a focal point in a cool courtyard garden. It is largely pest and disease-free, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance schemes in full or partial shade.
