Ringal Bamboo

Drepanostachyum falcatum, often called Ringal Bamboo, is a graceful, clump-forming bamboo revered for its extremely slender, delicate culms and airy, fern-like foliage. The canes emerge with a glaucous bloom, maturing to a soft green, and have prominent rings at the nodes, giving rise to its common name. Reaching 3-4 metres, it forms an elegant, weeping clump, creating a soft, misty effect. It is moderately hardy (H4) and requires a sheltered position in partial shade, protected from cold winds and frosts, with consistently moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Flowering is infrequent. Its delicate beauty makes it an exquisite specimen plant for a protected woodland setting, or in a large container where its elegant form can be appreciated.
