Cheddar Pink 'Badenia'

The 'Cheddar Pink' is a classic UK native, and the cultivar 'Badenia' is a standout selection for the rock garden. It forms a low, compact mound of needle-like, glaucous blue-grey foliage that remains attractive throughout the year. In early summer, it produces a profusion of single, brilliant scarlet-pink flowers with fringed petals. One of its most captivating features is its powerful, spicy clove fragrance, which can fill the air on a warm day. This plant is exceptionally hardy and thrives in sunny, well-drained positions, particularly on alkaline soils. It is well-suited to the tops of dry stone walls, gravel gardens, or the front of a sunny border. To maintain its compact shape and vigor, it is advisable to remove spent flowers and lightly trim the foliage after blooming. The blue-green foliage provides a wonderful foil for other alpine plants even when 'Badenia' is not in flower.
