Carrot 'Early Nantes 2'
'Early Nantes 2' is a quintessential early-season carrot, prized by UK gardeners for its speed of growth and exceptional sweetness. It produces uniform, cylindrical roots with a characteristic blunt tip and a very small core. The skin is smooth and bright orange, and because the skin is so thin, they often require little more than a light wash before eating. This variety is perfect for successional sowing from March through to July. For the earliest crops, sow under cloches in late February. The foliage is relatively short and fine. Because it matures quickly, it is often used as a 'filler' crop between slower-growing vegetables. Like all carrots, it requires a light, stone-free soil to prevent the roots from 'fangling' or splitting. It is particularly delicious when harvested young as 'finger carrots' and lightly steamed with a knob of butter. It is a reliable performer that brings the taste of summer to the British allotment.
