Early Carrot 'Amsterdam Forcing 3'

'Amsterdam Forcing 3' is the premier variety for the first carrot harvest of the year in the UK. This 'Amsterdam' type is specifically bred for its rapid growth and suitability for early sowings under glass or fleece. It produces slender, cylindrical, blunt-ended roots with a vibrant orange colour and almost no core. The texture is incredibly tender and the flavour is remarkably sweet, making these the quintessential 'baby carrots' that are a joy to eat raw or lightly glazed in butter. Because the roots are relatively short, it is an excellent choice for gardens with shallower soils or for growing in deep containers and window boxes. For the earliest crops, it can be sown as early as February in a cold frame or greenhouse. Successional sowings outdoors from March onwards will provide sweet, young carrots throughout the summer. It requires sandy, stone-free soil for the best root shape and consistent moisture to prevent splitting.
