Dahlia 'Spartacus'

A magnificent Giant Decorative Dahlia that produces enormous, velvety dark-red blooms often reaching over 20cm in diameter. This cultivar is prized by UK gardeners for its architectural presence and its ability to act as a dramatic focal point in late-summer borders. The plant has a robust, bushy habit with dark green serrated foliage that provides a perfect backdrop for the rich fuchsia-red flowers. Like most dahlias in Britain, it is tender and requires the tubers to be lifted and stored in a frost-free environment over winter, typically in dry peat or sand. It thrives in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and requires a sheltered spot to prevent the heavy flower heads from being damaged by wind. Regular deadheading will encourage a continuous display until the first frosts. It is an excellent choice for exhibition or for creating a high-impact cut flower arrangement.
