Dahlia 'Pipsqueak'
Dahlia 'Pipsqueak' is an utterly charming Miniature Ball dahlia that is perfect for smaller UK gardens or for the front of a border. It produces perfectly formed, spherical blooms that are only about 5-7cm in diameter. The colour is a delightful, glowing magenta-pink that sits beautifully against the mid-green foliage. Despite its name, the plant itself reaches a respectable height of about 90cm and is a prolific producer of flowers throughout the summer and autumn. Its small, sturdy blooms are highly resistant to wind and rain, which is a significant advantage in the unpredictable British weather. Like other dahlias, it is H3 hardy and requires the tubers to be lifted and overwintered in a dry, frost-free shed. It is an excellent variety for cutting, as the stems are strong and the small balls add a different texture to floral arrangements. It thrives in full sun and loves a good mulch of well-rotted manure in the spring.
