Dahlia 'Melody Dora'
Part of the 'Melody' series designed for their compact, bushy habit and abundance of flowers, 'Melody Dora' is an excellent decorative dahlia for UK gardeners with limited space. It produces medium-sized, fully double flowers with a stunning blend of apricot, yellow, and salmon-pink tones. Reaching a height of only 50-60cm, it is perfect for the front of a border or for creating a colourful display in patio pots. The stems are strong and the plant is remarkably self-supporting, requiring little to no staking. Like all dahlias, it is a sun-lover and needs a fertile, well-drained site. It is very free-flowering, and if deadheaded regularly, it will provide colour from July until the first frosts. The tubers are small but vigorous. In the UK, they should be lifted and stored over winter in most regions, although in the very mildest coastal areas, they might survive if given a very deep, dry mulch.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil.
Hardiness: H3 — down to −5°C.
Flowering: Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct.
