Dahlia 'Ironstanz'
This is a charming and underrated Ball Dahlia that produces small, perfectly formed spheres of soft lilac-pink flowers. Each bloom is a masterpiece of symmetrical petal arrangement, creating a dense and durable flower head. 'Ironstanz' is particularly noted for its strong, dark stems which hold the flowers proudly above the mid-green foliage. This makes it an ideal candidate for the cutting garden, as the stems are of excellent quality for arrangements. In the UK garden, it typically reaches about 100-110cm in height. It performs best in a sunny, open position with plenty of organic matter incorporated into the soil. Regular feeding with a high-potash fertiliser throughout the summer will ensure a continuous supply of flowers. As a tuberous perennial, it is tender and requires the standard lifting and dry storage over winter in most of the UK to ensure its survival for the following year.
