Dahlia 'G.F. Hemerik'

This charming heirloom variety is a "Mignon" dahlia, known for its dwarf, compact habit and simple, single flowers. 'G.F. Hemerik' produces a profusion of bright, clear orange blooms with a central yellow disk, held above neat, green foliage. Reaching only about 40-50cm in height, it is an ideal choice for the very front of a sunny border or for filling small containers and window boxes. Its single, open flowers are particularly popular with bees and other beneficial insects. In the UK, it is valued for its reliability and its ability to flower continuously for several months if deadheaded regularly. Like all dahlias, it is a tuberous perennial. In warmer southern gardens, it may survive the winter if planted deeply and heavily mulched, but in most of Britain, lifting the tubers in autumn is the recommended way to ensure their survival for the following year.
