Dahlia / Dinnerplate Dahlia 'Emory Paul'
Dahlia 'Emory Paul' is a legendary 'dinnerplate' variety that produces some of the largest flowers in the dahlia world, with blooms that can reach a staggering 30cm in diameter. The flowers are a beautiful, soft lilac-pink and are fully double with a decorative form. Due to the immense size and weight of the blooms, this cultivar requires very sturdy staking and a sheltered position to protect it from wind and rain. It is a vigorous grower, often reaching 120cm in height. As a tender tuberous perennial (H3), it must be lifted and stored over winter in the UK. It is a high-maintenance but highly rewarding plant that benefits from 'disbudding' (removing side buds) if the largest possible flowers are desired. It requires a very rich, fertile soil with plenty of organic matter and regular high-potash feeding throughout the summer. The spectacular scale of 'Emory Paul' makes it a show-stopping feature in any late summer garden or for exhibition purposes.
