Dahlia 'Cröwell'

Dahlia 'Cröwell' (sometimes listed as 'Crowell') is an exquisite Waterlily-type Dahlia. The flowers are a luminous, pale yellow with a subtle, waxy sheen, resembling the delicate petals of a Nymphaea. The form is elegant and less 'stiff' than many other dahlia types, making it sit more naturally in a traditional herbaceous border. In the UK, it is prized for its prolific flowering and the way the pale blooms stand out against dark green foliage. Reaching about 100cm, it is a sturdy plant but still benefits from some staking to support the weight of the blooms after heavy British rain. Plant the tubers in late spring once the danger of frost has passed, ensuring they are in a sunny spot with rich, free-draining soil. Lifting the tubers in autumn is necessary across the UK. It is a superb flower for cutting, adding a gentle radiance to indoor floral displays.
