Dahlia 'Bantling'
'Bantling' is a classic Pompon Dahlia that has remained a favourite in British gardens for decades. It produces perfectly spherical, miniature blooms of a vibrant, clear orange. The petals are neatly quilled and arranged with geometric precision, making each flower a small work of art. The plant itself is quite compact and very sturdy, usually reaching about 90cm, which means it rarely requires the heavy staking that larger dahlias need. It is exceptionally floriferous, often covered in dozens of blooms at once from mid-summer until the arrival of frosts. For the best results in the UK, plant in a sunny, sheltered spot and feed regularly with a high-potash fertiliser. The tubers should be lifted in late autumn after the foliage has been hit by frost. 'Bantling' is highly regarded for cutting, as the flowers have excellent vase life and add a pop of intense colour to any arrangement.
