Dahlia 'Akita'
Dahlia 'Akita' is a spectacular decorative variety that is highly prized for its unique, multi-toned blooms. The flowers are large and showy, with petals that are a rich, deep crimson-red at the base, fading to orange and then tipped with a delicate creamy-yellow or white. This fiery colour combination makes it a standout feature in any autumn border. The plant has a sturdy, upright habit, reaching about 1-1.2 metres in height, and produces plenty of flowers on long stems that are ideal for cutting. In the UK, its warm colours are perfect for late summer and autumn displays, pairing well with ornamental grasses and late-season perennials like Heleniums. It requires a sunny, sheltered spot and plenty of water during dry spells. Tubers should be lifted in late October or November, after the first frost has blackened the stems, and stored in a frost-free place until the following spring.
