Chinese Forget-me-not 'Firmament'
'Firmament' is an award-winning hardy annual that brings a rare and desirable true-blue colour to the UK garden. It forms a neat, bushy plant about 40-50cm tall, with greyish-green, slightly hairy foliage. In mid-to-late summer, it is topped with numerous clusters of small, five-petalled flowers of the deepest sky-blue. It is far more robust and heat-tolerant than the common spring forget-me-not (Myosotis). In the UK, it is best sown directly where it is to flower in late spring or late summer for the following year. It is quite a tough plant, succeeding in most garden soils as long as they are well-drained and the position is sunny. It is an excellent choice for a naturalistic or 'prairie' style planting and is highly attractive to bees and butterflies. Because of its taproot, it does not like to be moved once established. It also makes a charming and long-lasting cut flower.
