Globe Artichoke 'Violet de Provence'
Cynara scolymus 'Violet de Provence' is a distinguished French heirloom globe artichoke cultivar, celebrated for its violet-tinged, conical heads with a delicious, nutty flavour. This impressive perennial can reach a height of 1.5-2 metres with a spread of 90cm-1.2 metres, forming an architectural presence in the garden. It is moderately hardy and produces its edible flower buds from mid-summer into autumn. 'Violet de Provence' thrives in a sunny, sheltered position with deep, fertile, well-drained soil. Provide winter protection in colder areas. The thistles are also attractive to pollinators. RHS hardiness rating H5.
