Hardy Cyclamen
Cyclamen coum is a charming, petite tuberous perennial, highly valued in UK gardens for its ability to provide colour and interest during the colder months. Its rounded, fleshy leaves, often marbled with silver, emerge in late winter, followed closely by delicate, 'butterfly-wing' flowers. These can range in colour from white to various shades of pink and magenta, often with a darker blotch at the nose. They are remarkably hardy, thriving in the dappled shade beneath deciduous trees and shrubs where they can naturalise effectively. Preferring well-drained soil rich in organic matter, they are a low-maintenance choice, forming spreading carpets over time. Their resilience to winter weather makes them a staple for brightening dreary garden spots, and they are excellent in rockeries or woodland settings.
