Hardy Cyclamen
Cyclamen cilicium is a delightful, small, tuberous perennial originating from the rocky, wooded areas of Turkey. Perfect for naturalising in UK gardens, it offers a burst of late autumn to early winter interest. Its delicate, nodding flowers, often pure white or pale pink with a magenta blotch at the nose, appear before or with the leaves. The heart-shaped, dark green leaves are often beautifully marbled with silver, adding to its ornamental appeal even when not in flower. It thrives in cool, shady spots, making it ideal for planting under deciduous trees and shrubs where it will slowly spread to form charming carpets. Relatively hardy for the UK, it prefers free-draining soil and a sheltered position.
Sun: Partial shade.
Soil: Well-drained, humus-rich.
