Blue Arizona Cypress 'Blue Ice'

'Blue Ice' is widely considered one of the finest silvery-blue conifers for UK gardens. It grows into a narrow, conical tree with fine, feathery foliage that is held in dense, upward-pointing sprays. The colour is an intense, icy steel-blue that stands out remarkably well, especially during the grey days of winter. The bark is also attractive, peeling in flakes to reveal reddish-brown patches beneath. It is hardy (H4/H5) but performs best in the warmer, drier parts of the UK, as it requires excellent drainage and a position in full sun to thrive and maintain its vivid colour. It is drought-tolerant once established and makes an excellent focal point or a high-contrast screen. The foliage has a pleasant, resinous scent when crushed. It should be protected from the severest cold winds in more northern or exposed locations.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Well-drained, sandy or loamy soil.
