/ Courgette 'Zucchini'
The cultivar simply known as 'Zucchini' is the quintessential dark green courgette, prized for its reliability and prolific production. This variety forms a compact, bush-like plant that does not trail, making it perfect for smaller vegetable plots or large containers. It produces straight, uniform, cylindrical fruits with a smooth, glossy, dark-green skin and firm, creamy-white flesh. The flavour is mild and delicate, especially when harvested young at about 10-15cm in length. If left to grow, the fruits will rapidly become large marrows. The plant is incredibly productive; the more you harvest, the more it produces. It requires a sunny, sheltered position and very fertile soil enriched with plenty of organic matter. High water levels are essential, particularly once the fruits begin to form. The large, golden-yellow flowers are also edible and are considered a delicacy when stuffed and fried. It is a must-have for any productive summer garden.
