Squash 'Patisson Blanc'

This heirloom 'Pattypan' squash is a delightful and visually striking addition to any vegetable patch. 'Patisson Blanc' produces scalloped, UFO-shaped white fruits with a firm, succulent flesh that tastes somewhat like a mix of zucchini and artichoke. The bush-type habit makes it more space-efficient than trailing squash, suitable for smaller gardens. In the UK climate, it should be started indoors in April and moved out in June. The fruits are best harvested when small (5-10cm) for the most tender texture, but they can be allowed to grow larger for use as ornamental gourds. Like all squash, it thrives in a sunny, warm position with plenty of water and a very rich soil—often doing well on top of a compost heap. It produces large, edible yellow flowers. Rated H2, it is very frost-sensitive. This variety is excellent for roasting whole, stuffing, or slicing into stir-fries, providing a unique aesthetic to the dinner plate.
