Pumpkin 'Jack of All Trades'

'Jack of All Trades' is perhaps the best multi-purpose pumpkin variety for the UK. It was specifically bred to produce the "perfect" medium-sized pumpkin—around 3-5kg—with a deep orange skin and a classic rounded shape. It is ideally suited for carving at Halloween, but unlike many decorative pumpkins, it also has excellent culinary qualities. The flesh is thick, orange, and has a sweet flavour, making it perfect for pumpkin pies and soups. The plants are vigorous and relatively quick to mature, which is a significant advantage in the UK, where the growing season can be short. Each plant typically produces two or three high-quality fruits. Seeds should be started indoors in April or May and transplanted out once the soil has warmed up. The pumpkins have a sturdy stem and store well for several months after harvest if kept in a cool, dry place. This variety is a reliable favourite for family gardens.
