Sieber's Crocus 'Tricolor'

Crocus sieberi 'Tricolor' is an exquisite early spring bulb that is a favourite for its unique and vibrant flower pattern. Each small, cup-shaped bloom features three distinct bands of colour: a rich purple-blue top, a white middle band, and a bright golden-yellow throat. It is one of the earliest crocuses to bloom, often appearing in February when little else is in flower. It is low-growing (8-10cm) and looks best when planted in large drifts in a rock garden, at the front of a border, or even naturalised in very short grass. In the UK, it is fully hardy and easy to grow, provided the soil is well-drained. The flowers open wide in the sun to reveal their orange-yellow anthers, providing an early source of nectar for bumblebees waking from hibernation. After flowering, allow the leaves to die back naturally to ensure the corm can store energy for the following year.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Well-drained, gritty soil.
