Purple Smoke Bush 'Purpureus'

A deciduous shrub, 'Purpureus' is a striking cultivar of the smoke bush, grown for its rich purple foliage and airy, smoke-like plumes of flowers. The leaves emerge purplish-green in spring, deepening to a vibrant dark purple throughout summer, then displaying fiery red and orange tones in autumn. It produces large, feathery, pinkish-purple flower panicles in summer, giving it a 'smoky' appearance. It forms a large, spreading shrub up to 5 metres in height and spread. Hardy (H6), it requires full sun for best foliage colour and well-drained soil. An excellent specimen plant for dramatic effect.
