Dogwood 'Norman Hadden'
Cornus 'Norman Hadden' is a breathtaking semi-evergreen tree, often regarded as one of the best dogwoods for UK gardens. It forms a large, spreading shrub or small tree. In midsummer, it is covered in spectacular large bracts that start creamy-white and gradually age to a beautiful soft pink. These are followed in autumn by strawberry-like red fruits that hang from the branches, providing interest for both the gardener and the birds. During mild winters, the foliage remains, often turning shades of reddish-purple. It is hardy (H5) but performs best in a sheltered position to protect it from harsh winter winds. It thrives in moist, well-drained, fertile soil, ideally in full sun or light dappled shade. Its multi-seasonal interest—from flowers and fruits to attractive foliage—makes it a top-tier specimen plant for a middle-to-back border or a focal lawn position. It has a graceful, horizontal branching habit that adds structural beauty even when dormant.
