Dwarf Morning Glory 'Ensign Blue'
Unlike its invasive climbing relatives, Convolvulus tricolor 'Ensign Blue' is a well-behaved, bushy annual that stays close to the ground, reaching only about 20-30cm in height. It produces a spectacular display of trumpet-shaped flowers, each featuring a deep royal-blue outer ring, a white middle ring, and a bright yellow centre. This tri-colour effect is incredibly vivid and eye-catching. It is a hardy annual (H3) and can be sown directly into the garden where it is to flower in April or May. It is perfect for the front of a sunny border, rockeries, or hanging baskets. In the UK, the flowers typically open in the morning and close by mid-afternoon, but they are produced in such vast quantities that the plant is rarely without colour during the summer. It prefers well-drained soil and a position in full sun; it is remarkably tolerant of poor soil and drought. It is a cheerful, low-maintenance plant that provides intense colour for minimal effort. Highly recommended for beginner gardeners.
