Cup-and-saucer Vine
Cobaea scandens, affectionately known as the Cup-and-saucer Vine, is a fast-growing, tender perennial climber often grown as an annual in the UK. It produces unique, bell-shaped flowers resembling a cup sitting in a saucer. The blooms emerge greenish-white and mature to a rich purple, appearing from summer until the first frosts. This vigorous vine can quickly cover significant areas, reaching up to 5-7 meters, making it excellent for screening, covering pergolas, or trellises. It thrives in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil. Although not fully hardy, its rapid growth and exotic appearance make it a popular choice for adding dramatic vertical interest and vibrant colour to a summer garden.
