Lesser Calamint 'Blue Cloud'
'Blue Cloud' is a compact and charming perennial herb that forms a low mound of aromatic, grey-green leaves. When crushed, the foliage releases a scent that is a pleasant blend of peppermint and oregano. From mid-summer until the first frosts, the plant is covered in a delicate 'cloud' of tiny, pale blue flowers. While technically edible and sometimes used to make medicinal teas, its primary value in the UK is as a nectar plant—it is one of the very best for attracting bees. It is fully hardy (H5) and thrives in the typically well-drained, sunny conditions of a rock garden or at the front of a Mediterranean-style border. It is remarkably drought-tolerant and requires very little maintenance once established. Its long flowering season and neat habit make it a superior choice for professional designers looking to add soft texture and insect-friendly features to a planting scheme.
