Evergreen Clematis 'Winter Beauty'
A highly desirable evergreen clematis that provides much-needed interest during the coldest months of the year. 'Winter Beauty' produces drooping, bell-shaped, waxy flowers in a clean creamy-white or white. The foliage is a lush, glossy dark green and remains on the plant throughout the year, making it an excellent screening plant. It typically flowers from December through to February, often peaking in January. Because it flowers on the previous year's growth, it belongs to Pruning Group 1 and should only be trimmed lightly after flowering to maintain its shape. It is a moderately vigorous climber, reaching about 3 metres. It is best planted in a very sheltered spot, such as a south or west-facing wall, as the flower buds and foliage can be damaged by harsh frosts and cold, drying winds. It is an excellent choice for a conservatory or a protected courtyard where its delicate winter blooms can be appreciated up close in the UK’s winter climate.
