Early Large-flowered Clematis 'Miss Bateman'

'Miss Bateman' is a charming and compact deciduous climber that has remained a favourite in British gardens since the 1860s. It produces rounded, pure white flowers with striking chocolate-red anthers, reaching a diameter of approximately 10-15cm. This Group 2 clematis typically produces its main flush of flowers in late spring and early summer, often with a smaller second flush in late summer. Due to its compact habit, rarely exceeding 2.5 metres, it is an ideal choice for smaller gardens or for growing in large containers on a patio. It is a reliable performer that prefers a sunny or partially shaded position. Like most clematis, it likes to have its roots kept cool, which can be achieved by planting low-growing shrubs or perennials around the base. It is fully hardy and requires only light pruning in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged growth and tidy up the stems.
