Moroccan Daisy
Cladanthus arabicus is a charming and somewhat underused annual in the UK, perfect for those seeking something a little different. It produces yellow, daisy-like flowers with a unique growth habit; the central flower is followed by secondary stems that emerge from just below the bloom, creating a branching, tiered effect. The foliage is finely divided and aromatic, resembling that of chamomile. It typically grows to about 60cm in height and width, forming an airy, rounded mound. It is a hardy annual that thrives in hot, dry conditions and poor soil, making it an excellent choice for gravel gardens or sunny, well-drained borders. It is very easy to grow from seed, which can be sown directly in the garden in spring. The flowers are attractive to hoverflies and other beneficial insects. It provides a bright, cheerful presence and a touch of the exotic despite being very easy to manage.
