Small-flowered Rock Rose

Cistus x parviflorus is a dense, mounding evergreen shrub native to the eastern Mediterranean, including Crete and Turkey. It is one of the more compact Cistus species, typically reaching about 60cm in height and spread. It features small, grey-green, slightly wrinkled leaves that provide a muted backdrop for its delicate flowers. In late spring, it produces a profusion of small, clear pink blossoms, each with a bright yellow centre. Despite their size, the sheer quantity of flowers makes for a highly effective display. It is particularly noted for its exceptional hardiness compared to some of the larger-flowered Cistus. In the UK, it thrives in dry, sunny spots and is an excellent choice for a Mediterranean-themed rock garden or as part of a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant border. It requires very little attention once established and is resistant to most pests and diseases. Like all members of its genus, it demands sharp drainage to survive wet winters.
