Chicory 'Rossa di Verona'
'Rossa di Verona' is a beautiful Italian chicory, forming tight, compact heads of deep red leaves with white veins, especially after exposure to cold weather. It offers a wonderfully bitter flavour, perfect for salads or lightly grilled. This radicchio type typically grows to 20-30cm tall and wide. It's H6 hardy and can tolerate light frosts, which often improve its colour and flavour. 'Rossa di Verona' prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Sow in mid-summer for an autumn and winter harvest. If left to flower, it produces attractive blue flowers that are beneficial to pollinators. A striking and gourmet addition to the winter vegetable garden, providing colour and flavour when other crops are scarce.
