Weeping Anthericum 'Starlight'
A charming and relatively recent introduction to UK gardens, Chlorophytum saundersiae 'Starlight' is a tuberous perennial that offers a graceful, grass-like habit. It forms a fountain of slender, arching linear leaves that are vividly variegated with creamy-white margins and a green centre. From midsummer through to the first frosts of autumn, it produces delicate, starry white flowers on tall, wiry stems that dance above the foliage. While often grown as a houseplant, it performs exceptionally well in UK patio containers or sheltered borders during the summer months. It is not fully hardy (H3), so the tubers must be lifted and stored in a frost-free environment over winter or the pots moved under glass. It thrives in fertile, well-drained soil in a position of full sun to partial shade. Its architectural form makes it an excellent choice for modern 'white gardens' or as a focal point in mixed seasonal bedding displays.
