Glory-of-the-Snow
Chionodoxa sardensis, aptly named Glory-of-the-Snow, is a resilient little bulbous perennial that heralds the arrival of spring with its vibrant, gentian-blue, star-shaped flowers. Each slender stem typically bears several blooms, creating a delightful carpet of intense colour in late winter to early spring. Originating from western Turkey, this species is known for its pure, unadulterated blue hue, setting it apart from other Chionodoxa varieties. It naturalises exceptionally well in lawns, rock gardens, and under deciduous trees, preferring well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Hardy throughout the UK, it's a superb choice for adding early spring interest and providing a vital food source for early pollinators. Easy to grow and low maintenance, Chionodoxa sardensis is a true horticultural gem. It is distinct from Chionodoxa luciliae and forbesii.
