Glory of the Snow

Chionodoxa forbesii, or Glory of the Snow, is a charming and reliable tuberous perennial that brings a welcome splash of colour to UK gardens in early spring. Its star-shaped flowers, typically a brilliant blue with a white eye, emerge in profusion, creating a stunning carpet of colour. There are also pink and white cultivars available. These small, jewel-like flowers are excellent for naturalising in lawns, under deciduous trees, or at the front of borders, where they can form impressive drifts over time. They are incredibly hardy and unfussy, thriving in a range of well-drained soils, but perform best in sunny to partially shaded locations. Chionodoxa spreads readily, making it an excellent choice for a low-maintenance, high-impact spring display. They are also beneficial for early pollinators.
