Spotted Square Bamboo stick 'Scree'
Chimonobambusa 'Scree' is a fascinating hybrid bamboo that is prized for its unusual appearance and tactile qualities. It inherits the slightly squared culms of the Square Bamboo (C. quadrangularis) and the marbled culm sheaths of C. marmorea. It is a medium-sized bamboo, usually reaching 2 to 3 metres, and has a very dense, bushy habit. The leaves are relatively small and create a fine-textured screen. One of the highlights is the autumn interest; this bamboo often produces new shoots in late summer or autumn, which are a beautiful marbled purple-brown. It is moderately hardy (H4) and thrives in a sheltered, humid spot in the UK. It is a running bamboo, so it requires root containment. It is particularly effective as a decorative specimen in a Japanese-style garden or a courtyard where its unique culms and refined foliage can be appreciated up close. It prefers moist, organic soil and a position protected from midday sun and cold, drying winds.
