Sawara Cypress 'Squarrosa'
Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Squarrosa' is a distinctive cultivar of the Sawara Cypress, highly admired for its soft, feathery, juvenile foliage that resembles moss. The needles are awl-shaped and silvery-blue-green, giving the plant a fluffy texture. It typically forms a broad, irregular conical shape, growing to a height of 4-6m with a spread of 2-3m over many years. In winter, the foliage often takes on attractive purplish-bronze tints, adding seasonal interest. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. 'Squarrosa' makes an excellent specimen plant, providing fine texture and a unique colour palette to borders or as a focal point. Due to its juvenile foliage, it responds well to pruning.
