Sawara Cypress 'Filifera Purpurea'

'Filifera Purpurea' is an unusual and striking conifer with a distinctive "mop-head" appearance. It features long, thread-like, drooping branches that give it a soft, shaggy texture. The unique selling point of this cultivar is its foliage colour; the new growth emerges with a purplish-bronze tint, which persists particularly well in the winter months, while the interior of the plant remains a dark green. It is a slow-growing, broad-based shrub that eventually forms a conical shape. Fully hardy (H6), it thrives in moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It is best placed in a sunny position to ensure the best purple-bronze coloration. It is a fantastic choice for adding texture and winter colour to a border or for use in a container. It requires almost no pruning and is generally free from the browning issues that can affect some other cypress varieties.
