Hinoki Cypress cultivar 'Kosteri'
'Kosteri' is a charming and highly prized dwarf Hinoki Cypress, ideal for the enthusiast of Japanese-style gardening. It grows into a small, irregularly shaped shrub with a self-layering, almost tiered habit that gives it an instant 'cloud-pruned' or bonsai appearance without the effort. The foliage consists of slightly twisted, fan-shaped sprays of a soft, rich green. In the UK, it is valued for its slow growth and neat, compact size, reaching approximately 1 metre in height after 10-15 years. It is fully hardy (H6) but prefers a position sheltered from drying winds to prevent the foliage from browning. It thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil and does best in full sun or very light shade. This cultivar is particularly effective in containers, rock gardens, or near garden ponds where its intricate texture can be admired. It is a refined specimen that adds a sense of calm and maturity to any garden setting.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
