Cornflower / Bachelor's Button 'Frosted Queen'

'Frosted Queen' is a delightful bicolour mix of the classic British wildflower. While maintaining the easy-going nature of the species, this cultivar offers flowers in shades of pink, blue, lavender, and maroon, all with distinct white-edged petals that give a 'frosted' or variegated appearance. Growing to approximately 60-75cm, it is a hardy annual that is best sown directly into the soil in either spring or autumn. It is a staple of the 'cool flower' movement, as it can withstand late spring frosts with ease. Cornflowers are legendary for their ability to attract pollinators, particularly bees. They are also edible, making them a popular choice for garnishing salads and cakes. In the UK garden, they work best when mass-planted in an informal or meadow-style patch. They prefer a sunny site with well-drained soil and may require some support from twiggy pea-sticks to keep them upright during heavy summer rain.
