Fountain Grass 'Red Head'

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Red Head' is a spectacular cultivar of fountain grass, highly prized in UK gardens for its exceptionally large, smoky-rose to reddish-purple bottlebrush plumes. These magnificent flower spikes emerge in late summer, arching gracefully above a neat mound of fine, green foliage. The plumes maintain their colour and form well into autumn, gradually fading to a buff colour but continuing to provide excellent winter interest. The foliage itself turns a lovely golden-bronze with the arrival of cooler weather, adding to its seasonal appeal. 'Red Head' is fantastic as a specimen plant, in mixed borders, or for mass planting, bringing texture, movement, and rich colour to the late-season garden. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil.
