Chinese Fountain Grass 'Black Beauty'

'Black Beauty' is a striking ornamental grass valued for its exceptionally dark, smoky purple to near-black flower spikes that resemble bottlebrushes. These dramatic plumes appear from mid-summer and persist through autumn, standing elegantly above a mound of narrow, arching green leaves. The foliage transitions to a lovely golden-yellow in the autumn, extending the season of interest. It is a compact variety, making it suitable for smaller UK gardens, gravel gardens, or even large containers. While it is hardy in most parts of the UK (H4), it requires a sheltered, sunny spot and well-drained soil to thrive and produce its best flower display. In colder regions, a thick winter mulch is advisable. Its soft textures and dark colours provide a wonderful contrast to late-summer perennials like Rudbeckia or Helenium. Cut back the dead foliage and old flower stems in early spring.
