Wood Sedge
Carex sylvatica, commonly known as Wood Sedge, is a graceful and understated evergreen perennial that is native to the UK and well-suited to woodland and shade gardens. It forms attractive, arching clumps of bright green, narrow leaves, providing a soft, flowing texture. In spring and early summer, delicate, pendulous flower spikes emerge, initially green and maturing to a light brown, adding subtle detail. This sedge is particularly valuable for its ability to thrive in shadier conditions and moist, humus-rich soil, where it can naturalise gently. It's an excellent choice for ground cover under trees, softening woodland edges, or alongside shady paths, offering year-round freshness and a naturalistic aesthetic with minimal fuss.
