Bowles' Golden Sedge 'Aurea'
Carex stricta 'Aurea', often known as Bowles' Golden Sedge, is a luminous evergreen perennial that brings a vibrant splash of golden-yellow to UK gardens, especially effective in damp or boggy conditions. It forms an upright, fountain-like clump of narrow, arching leaves that intensely brightens shady or semi-shady areas. The vibrant colour holds throughout the year, providing excellent winter cheer. In spring, subtle brown flower spikes appear amongst the foliage, adding to its natural charm. This sedge thrives in consistently moist to wet soil and is ideal for planting alongside ponds, streams, in bog gardens, or in consistently damp borders, where its golden hues can truly shine. It's a low-maintenance plant that offers reliable colour and texture.
