New Zealand Sedge 'Milk Chocolate'

A unique and highly decorative evergreen sedge that offers a sophisticated colour palette. 'Milk Chocolate' forms a low, dense, shimmering mop-head of extremely fine, hair-like foliage. The colour is a rich, warm reddish-brown with hints of bronze and copper, which looks particularly effective when paired with silver-leaved plants or bright green ferns. It is a versatile plant, equally at home in a contemporary gravel garden, a mixed border, or as a focal point in a winter container. It has a graceful, arching habit, with the tips of the leaves often trailing along the ground. In summer, it produces tiny, inconspicuous brownish flower spikes nestled among the foliage. It prefers a position in full sun or light shade with well-drained soil. Like many New Zealand sedges, it does not like to sit in stagnant winter water. It requires very little maintenance—simply 'comb' through the foliage with your fingers in spring to remove dead blades and keep it looking fresh.
